New lappy (HP 8510w).
XP install. Set to non-native SATA in the bios to get it to install. It's up and running good. Now to set it to native mode and get on with Vista install (dual boot.)
Cannot install the sata drivers. According to HP I have to do this ONLY at base install of XP.
I just spent the whole afternoon getting XP installed and running, do I really have to start over to get it in Sata native and install the darn drivers?
That sux.![]()
Is there any other way?

Not to mean or disrespect but the other way would be to install XP on a SATA and Vista on a SATA on a different partition.
Vista will install onto SATA drives fine but you will need the SATA drivers slipstreamed into XP SP2 in order to install onto a SATA drives. I am thinking both has to be installed on native SATA. -
Crap. So I do need to start over. Oh well, S_it happens.
Slipstreaming now...
Thanks. -
I have just preinstalled XP with my Dell Win XP CD. After that I installed Intel MB drivers without any problems.
But then, what do I need these drivers for: "IntelĀ® Matrix Storage Technology"?
Currently I have ATA in BIOS. I am bit confused in this matter. I did a search a few times but can't find the answers for:
1. Should I be bothered by: "IntelĀ® Matrix Storage Technology drivers"? They need to be installed with the system.
2. As all the drivers are installed properly (no question marks in Device manager) should I be bothered?
3. Shall I run XP on ATA or AHCI?

I found this after the fact which describes how to convert to SATA native after XP install.
