I just got my new e1505. The first thing i noticed was the insane amount of preinstalled softwear, a lot which starts automatically
. I decided just to format and reinstall vista to solve the prolem. so thats done and everything seems to be working great. I have sound, can play movies, and so on. So my question is do i need to install the dell drivers disk/media direct. what am i losinng if i dont....... what will some of those programs come back if i do?

go to divice manager and see if there are and ? which will tell you that the driver isn't installed correct. what you do is print out a Belerc advisor(free) so if any drivers are messed up, you know the names and can google for the driver. (i just did this yesterday w/ my hp pavilian and it took about a day to do the clean install, drivers, and old software.

None of the junkware will come back if you install drivers. As mentioned, see what you're missing and go from there. www.support.dell.com contains all the drivers you'll need.

I always always ALWAYS nuke the hard drive. Just install the bare minimum Dell drivers from their support website. Some of the devices can use the manufacturer drivers, such as Intel chipset & wireless card, NVIDIA or ATI video card, etc.
