I have always unchecked it and hid it from Windows update, I don't get it, why would I need it if I use NOD32? it doesn't do anything that I'm missing right?
oops, seems like it's useless crap from Micro$aft: What is the Malicious Software Removal Tool and Do I Need It?

Correct, if you have a real-time AV, however no AV can protect you @ 100% simply because the (H)IPS & Virus signatures are released after the malware has been released in the wild and discovered & not before.
Additional layers of protection are needed and one of these and mandatory, is to have a backup system image software with full images of the OS stored on one or more external devices.

right, I know what you mean and those are called 0 day exploits, so basically, this Microsoft Removal tool is just useless garbage
-
No, I don't bother with it even if I don't have an AV installed. It's totally useless and an insult as to what it tries to do. Just ask Mitlov who got a nasty case of Blaster on one of his systems which is what the malicious removal tool is supposed to find and eliminate. He even forced a scan and the MRT utility found 0 problems.
He had to install malwarebytes which removed the virus. -
Imaging software, like Paragon, Acronis, Macrium or SSR 13, are your first line of defence against potential disasters, AV's come next...

^I'd say Secure Erase comes between imaging software and AVs
-
No, you don't need it, especially if have av software installed...
Do you install Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool?
