With Windows 8, we approached the logo redesign with a few key goals on mind.
1. We wanted the new logo to be both modern and classic by echoing the International Typographic Style (or Swiss design) that has been a great influence on our Metro style design philosophy. Using bold flat colors and clean lines and shapes, the new logo has the characteristics of way-finding design systems seen in airports and subways.
2. It was important that the new logo carries our Metro principle of being “Authentically Digital”. By that, we mean it does not try to emulate faux-industrial design characteristics such as materiality (glass, wood, plastic, etc.). It has motion – aligning with the fast and fluid style you’ll find throughout Windows 8.
3. Our final goal was for the new logo to be humble, yet confident. Welcoming you in with a slight tilt in perspective and when you change your color, the logo changes to reflect you. It is a “Personal” Computer after all.

I like it.

To me it's more about not using the old logo, once again. It never looked good.
The old logo would still have been ok if it was in one color though, just like in the OP's sig. -
Haha, it really looks like there are "windows" now. I think I am somewhat impressed.
Not too sure if I am fond of the positioning of the text next to the logo. Looks a bit odd that the text is flat but the windows are on an angle. -
didn't like it as much, looks more like a country's flag than a logo to me
-
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
It's ok I guess. Don't care about it much though. All I care is the OS itself
.
-
Well, It gonna save me some ink when doing a printer test page.(But then I don't know if my printer color printing is working)
Otherwise it is ok. In fact, I don't think many will care if they put Bill Gates head there -
Sometimes you have to do crazy stuff like this to make people think differently.
That said, it doesn't bother me, I don't see it that much to notice anyway. -
I like a unified design language, and the logo fits with the rest of the Metro interface. So, it works for me!
-
Much better. -
MS should stop being so damn boring and make a logo like this ..........
-
Yeah I was going to say, its a bit boring. Still, Id personally focus more on the OS than the logo lol.

Some of the new wallpaper looks nice...

I like how they went back to what a logo really should be: single colour, very simple so it's usable on tiniest spaces and in very huge szenarios. it can be coloured at will where apropriate, it can get effects applied to it as needed, etc. but the default of a logo should always be one colour, and as simple as possible.
great work there. i would have mirrored it, so the window turns towards the title. other than that, it's great, it's logical, it's quite.. obvious. "it's a window, not a flag". makes perfect sence.
and, everyone can feel free to add as much chrome and stuff to it as he feels there's need for it.
i'm curious if there will be some animated boot thingy with that logo. because there's a rule in metro: you don't prettify it with chrome and shine and other effects, you prettify it by subtle, smooth animations.
10 days till we know more. -
I'm curious who "we" is?
Am I totally missing something? -

I love the logo!
Sent from my SGH-i917 using Board Express -
Much believeable
@Fishon yesterday I was browsing 1 site and surprisely found a picture with your avatar. It is an oooold movie.
P.S. The idea of similar logo was created much long time ago...
-
It's awful
-
It's not very eye catching. If I were to walk past a sign or billboard with that logo, I probably wouldn't even notice it, much less turn my head and look.
-
we= MS ?
Am I totally missing something?
yep a nice cup of coffee -
Hahah,
Got the coffe now Bud.
I think its so bland and boring. To be honest Microsoft has gone square bland and boring. the windows phone is a prime example of its lack of imagination. -
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
As for the new logo, I get where they're coming from with it, but it's lacking in oomph - the window itself is alright, maybe a 6 to the old logo's 8 versus the Apple logo's 10 (which is partially due to its longevity and Apple's history of surrounding it with pretty iThings), but with the font added it's too long and narrow, and the typeface seems a little too vanilla to me with all of the white space along its length. However, maybe the ability of the user to change its color is worth a point or two. Overall, a brave departure from tradition after almost 20 years of the Windows flag, but not a knockout at first sight. -
P.s. Put Android side by side with iOs and you'll see bland and boring and they look like each other which in turn looks like Windows mobile 6.1! -
It's ok for me, I like the logo design, but I am not crazy about the plain blue color, I would have preferred at least a mix of two.

They possibly decided to win another price for the ugliest.... And I sign that they have no imagination at all. -
windows 8 logo was designed by Paula Scher from Pentagram i have to agree that the logo could be a lot better to me its an ok logo not that impressive
Do you like the new windows logo
