I am using XP only because my computer is a dinosaur. I bought it in 2003.

I am waiting until Windows 8 is released to get a new machine. There are already some sectors on my hard drive that are failing though. I am not sure my machine will make it.

My first laptop (the Toshiba listed in my sig) came with XP and still runs XP. I had to underclock the CPU so it doesn't overheat and it can barely handle XP. Of course, the laptop is gathering dust on my shelf and the last time I used it was when my current laptop was upgrading to 7.

It took about 5 minutes for it to boot up and another 5 until I could open up Firefox. It wasn't a pretty sight and being used to all the Aero eyecandy, I must say I didn't enjoy using XP anymore. I mean, c'mon... the OS is nearly 10 years old, time to MOVE ON PEOPLE!

yeah i agree, xp is getting on, soon enough microsoft will stop supporting it. as soon as my d620 arrives on my door step, im not even gunna bother booting it, im gunna throw in a bigger hdd, and throw vista or 7 on it.

no, yours is no different. Your title is different but your question is the same. "Just randomly bored on my 9 week holiday break, and just wondering what your preference of Windows OS is?"

Yep. I still cling to Windows XP eventhough my laptop is more than capable of running Vista or 7. I will stick to it until 2014 which is when Microsoft stops releasing security updates or until my laptop breaks; whichever come first.

I can't stand Vista and 7. Clumsy GUI, too much restriction, slower in almost everything, and too many bell and whistles and I don't need. I would rather dedicate raw processing power for running my applications.

blah blah blah, what ever, does it even matter? or is it at your inconvenience that you have to read another post that is similar?

Wow. Ok, since you apparently don't understand the fairly simple principle of forum rules/etiquette I'll have a mod explain it to you.

yeah, i must say that unless you have a decent setup you cant really run vista or 7 with a few power hungry apps, or you get to see the slow down. I personally do not like the 7 ui, vista or xp for me.

Still using XP on my 8 yr old desktop! I call it nostalgia.

AMD athlon 64 3500+ with 1GB of memory and a Gforce 6600GT wont handle the new OS that well I believe.. Cant wait to start working with 7 though.

I hear it understands the architectures of the Nehalem CPU's much better than Vista ever will.

no, i understand it, i read the terms and conditons at the start when i clicked, "i agree" and because i have had 2 "complaints" or more "nudges" i have changed it. thank-you for pointing that out!

imo, any computer can handle 7.
i had an old laptop i found, it had a celeron, 256mb ram, 40gig, it ran vista ultimate, but once i installed firefox, it was slowwwwwww. i still wish it was working, then i could see if 7 would work on it.

I still am using my XP (32-bit) as my main. I have multi-boot with Win7. And I have VM's of Vista and Ubuntu.

My main computer (Thinkpad T500) has Vista, soon to be Win7, but my old laptop that does BitTorrent duty is running XP Professional. I have not upgraded it because 1.- it works fine, 2.- TI's graphing calculator software has issues with Vista and Win7, especially 64-bit editions.

This thread is redundant with the more popular thread on what your OS preference, and with continued server performance issues, it is now closed.

If you have any specific question related to an OS, feel free to post it and FYI, if you are bored, I suggest that you visit the Off Topic Forum.
