Just saw this ( http://www.pcworld.com/businesscent...nts_to_slimmer_future_for_windows_client.html) article, quoted a bit below:
I know the Web is gaining importance, but this seems a bit ridiculous. Who really uses Google Apps more than Microsoft Office? I know some people do, but by and large we still use applications on the desktop. Sure there's flash plugins and web-based email, but beyond that the local desktop still seems king. To say Vista was a disaster because it still has such a focus on the desktop just doesn't seem accurate to me.
But what do you think? Have web apps really reached a point where they're nearly as important or as important as desktop apps? Had they in 2007? Or will the desktop continue to reign king?

Only time I use it is when i am in a hurry to open an attachment in Gmail. Sometimes people send doc files instead of writing stuff in an email (I guess they like to use color and fonts) and I open them quickly with "open in google documents". I used to use open as html but that sometimes displayed them badly.
For editing or even writing I dont think I would ever use them. I see no reason to.... Open Office is better and free and desktop apps feel more secure.
Do you use web applications?
