I've been trying to find some information about this but I couldn't find anything specific. I formatted my computer and the only new thing I installed was Avast and Adaware. I had used Adaware before without many problems, but I don't know about Avast because for some reason Firefox randomly quits connecting to the internet, so I think Avast might have something to do with it. Every time I have to restart my computer because just closing FF doesn't work. And it's only Firefox, Thunderbird and IE work fine.

I'm also using AVG, Zone Alarm, Windows Defender and Windows Firewall, but I had been using those before too, so I don't think any of them can cause the connection problems.
    Anybody knows?

If you have Avast you should probably uninstall AVG and only run one firewall. I'd also disable or uninstall Windows Defender.

avg and avast together is not a good combination, i agree with hiker to just use one (avg in my opinion).

zone alarm and windows defender were useless to me. All i needed was adaware and spybot.

also, have you checked for other causes other than firefox? does firefox start working only when you restart? have you tried reinstalling firefox?

maybe check for processes running while firefox is running?

that's all i can really recommend.
