If I run a laptop with Windows XP, will it have longer battery life than if I run Windows Vista?

I do not use Vista (I do use XP) but considering Windows Vista has higher system requirements, a.k.a. needs more system resources to run I would think Windows Vista would drain the battery more. Especially with Aero turned on.

for me not really, if you have home basic nope. because for me i have more programs running on XP so it uses more power, but for Vista no because i dont have many programs running on vista so it uses less power.

so really it would depended on how many programs you use in vista also what version of vista you have installed because basic does not have aero so thats one major factor.

Alright guys if you want to have exactly the same efficency as XP all you have to do is change windows into that crappy classic theme and turn off Aero ;> done and done.

While Vista demands more resources, it should also be noted that it can independently control the power level (sleep state) of individual laptop components, which theoretically should make it more energy efficient than XP. i haven't been able to compare my laptop to an XP setup, but i'm running close to 5hrs and 15 minutes on Vista with a 9-cell battery.

I run windows vista on my Latitude D630 and I get average of 4h45 minutes on a 6 cell battery, using vista'a power-saver options. (this is while surfing and using Ms office)

Vista deffinently saves when your on the road. You have an option to underclock everything GPU, CPU, RAM speed, you name it. I watched 2, 3 hour movies on mine... well, i got like 3/4 of the way through the second one, but i was impressed though.

Laptops today give you too much battery life. Thank Vista for reducing it down to a manageable level.
