After a fresh install of XP pro sp2 do I need any patches to make sure that my dual core processor is utilized fully?

it'll run, but it's not really going to take full advantage of both cores.

not only does the OS need to be optimized for multi-threaded application, but so do the programs that you run.

in all reality, it's going to still be a while before multi-core processors are fully utilized.

that being said, it doesn't mean that they're a waste. i find my C2D processor to be quite efficient and very fast still.

While this is true, it doesn't mean that you're wasting a lot of your processor. It just means that you'll get the most of it while multi-tasking or using multi-threaded applications/games.

It isn't? I think Microsoft will be very surprised to hear that.

Sorry, i typo'ed that. Meant to say most softwares. Although as the thread i linked to points out, XP is not optimized to use multi-cores out of the box. You need to patch it.
