Does anyone know how I could convert MKV to AVI/MP4 and keep subtitles?

have you tried super or 3gpconverter?

are the subtitles an extra file or embedded in the mkv?

    I haven't tried Super or 3PGCONVERTER.

Yes, it is embedded in the MKV.

    Alright.

If the codec used for video is x264 then there is no point of putting into .avi container as x264 doesn't go well with .avi. But if it is xvid/divx then it's fine.

I'm not sure if avimuxer will do or not. But worth a shot. Check doom9

Well the problem is going to be the soft subs. The mp4 container does not allow you to mux in a subtitle stream like the mkv container does. You will have to re-encode the video file to hard code the subtitles into the video stream, then mux the video and audio streams into an mp4 container.

If it is hard subs, there shouldn't be any problem. Try using MediaCoder or avidemux. If you encounter a problem, post in the respective software forum. I'm sure people will be there to help.
