Wrong forum section and duplicate thread.

The office 365 suit is the same thing as you would get in another laptop.

Don't worry too much about it. The admins can move the thread for you. I said it's the wrong section because this section is about pre-7 version of Windows. With a Surface you would get Windows 8.x.

Network error happens. It's usually a good habit to refresh the thread list if you see any error while posting. But again if it's caused by network problem then no biggie.

Office 365 is the [forget_this] personal version[/forget_this] subscription-based release of MS Office [forget_this] , which is probably what you need[/forget_this] plus some other services. And it's pre-installed on Surface products. Please note that you still need a valid key to activate it once the limited trial expires. You can install the same software on any other Windows 8 (X86) laptop/tablet. You will get exactly the same functionality as you would with a Surface if you have touch and stylus on that device.

For lack of a better place (that I can think of) I moved this to the main Windows forum. I also deleted the new duplicate thread. With this post, the thread has been bumped. It can be bumped again after at least 24 hours.

Yup, they do, I've had some duplicates of posts/threads happen to me as well.

Regarding Office 365, it is not the home version of Office. Office 365 is the name of the various Office products that fall under the subscription model. You have Office 365 Home, Office 365 University, Office 365 Small Business and so on. There's also an enterprise version of it. If you're a student, Office 365 University will likely hit the sweet spot for price/features. You get the full fledged Office suite (though you likely won't use access or publisher), a 4 years subscription for less ~ 80$.

Finally, regarding the surface pro, it has the same hardware than a laptop would have, just in a different form factor, when you install whatever version of Office you have, it will be the exact same version that you'd get on a traditional computer. The only difference is that the UI will set itself to it's touch layout by default.

It doesn't really matter in terms of comparing to Laptop with Office.. there is no comparison or match when using office on laptop. So want to swiped and play online games app surface but want some useful work done use a laptop. And for power laptop will blow surface away any time of the day also laptop also do come in some touch screen so using a surface is just about a fad not really about useful work. Also Surface is so dead technology the iPad has taken the King of the Hill that surface is a meaningless product to be had. If you want to use MS Office for real work get a real laptop they are more then powerful today power users especially the upper models will more then suffice users but then again this is my take on laptop.
