Does windows 7 automaticly find u the best and newest drivers? so when a new version is out it updates it?
-
I think it automaticly grabs the newest stable driver for whatever you need drivers for.
-
No. It will find you a driver that probably works, but there is no guarantee that it will be newest or best. I tried it with both ATI and Nvidia video card drivers and it wasn't even close to the latest in either case.
-
Thats why i posted the newest stable release.
Most of the drivers Nvidia shells out are betas and non-WHQL releases, so they dont make it, and even if AMD gets their Catalyst package WHQL tested it would take a while until it hits Windows Update.
Have no idea how fast Intel drivers goes to Windows Update. -

okay, thanks for answers

you need to define 'best'. Stable, new, smallest, from the original maker only, from third party sites, etc, etc.
-
For example my Alps touchpad, Windows will grab a default driver while there are stable newer Alps drivers available.
For the ICH 9 controller Intel has released newer stable drivers that outperform the MS drivers. -
Windows will give you generic, stable drivers to get you up and running, but if you want the best stablity and performance, you'll have to do some digging.
-
i think for most people, joe public, if something works and does what it is supposed to do, then that is the best driver. so, yes, if it works after updating then you have the 'best' driver.
most who visit this forum want more than 'just working' so you will find all sorts of recomendations for better drivers, and tweaks and performance/extra features from other drivers.
as was said already, you can decide what is the 'best' driver for you. -
Windows will find you drivers that can keep you up and running; that's it that's all. Sometimes it won't find you all the drivers too if you have things like modems or special storage controllers.
For example, it doesn't provide you hotkey drivers, special button drivers or anything like that.
In the case of my TabletPC, it provided a generic touchscreen derive, but I didn't have all the functionality so I needed to dig up the actual digitizer driver to have all my features.
