Does anyone know what this is? Everytime I boot up its in my processes- i've looked in msconfig and it does't show up there so I can't disable from the startup processes I guess. Could it have anything to do with Startupmonitor (a program to monitor things being added to the registry- get it if you don't have it!).
thanks
Dan

I've wondered what this is to. It's running on my notebook and I don't have StartupMonitor.

it is an intel wireless utiltiy - it is safe to remove the start-up since Windows Wireless Zero Configuration can do the job as well. or u can disable windows WZC and leave this utility alone.

As qhn stated, Dot1XCfg.exe works with the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless Network Connection Software. More information about this can be found at: http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-022793.htm

I followed Intel's instructions and it still appears in the processes list.

If you know that you don't need it as a running process go to Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services. From there, it will give you a list of all the services, and look at the ones with the status of Started. I am not very familiar with Dot1XCfg.exe so I don't know the name of the service it is associated with. However, since it does work with Intel(R) PRO/Wireless Network Connection check any services with a similar name like that.
When you think you have found the correct service, right click on it and select Properties, and in the area where it says "Path to executable" if it has C:\PROGRA~1\Intel\Wireless\Bin\Dot1XCfg.exe then you have found the right service. From there push Stop to set the Service Status to Stopped, select Startup Type to Disabled, press Apply and it should not run again.
I hope that helps. -
I've removed the Intel PRO/Wireless software now, as I thought I would see how XP manages the wireless, and that got rid of it.
Dot1XCfg.exe??
