    Hi,
I recently purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad R400 that comes with Vista Home Basic edition. I intend to downgrade the OS to XP version but I have the following issues that come up in my mind.

    1) Once I wiped out the original Vista version, all the pre-installed Lenovo software eg ThinkVantage software will be gone. Where can I obtain all these softwares to reinstall back into my new notebook?

    2) Will I be able to download all the drivers that are compatible to my new notebook for XP?

    3) R400 comes with standalone display drivers that allow switching to save power. If I change my OS to XP, does this function still work?

Many thanks in advance for the advice.

Hard to give straight answers to your points. But moving a Vista system to XP would surely leave a few "cool" functionalities. Drivers can either be found at the Lenovo site, or via devices manufacturers, if they have it.

How about a dual boot setup, this way you can learn first hand how things go.

    cheers ...

Does your laptop come with a restore recovery disk utility.
My laptop did and all I had to do is burn a disk then reinstall in use the disk to install software again.
