i wanted to know, if someone know how to downgrade from vista to xp.
When i try to format, it tells me :

Set up did not find any hard disk drive installed in your computer.

Make sure any hard disk drivers are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuation is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or set up program

Setup cannot continue. To quit setup, press F3

I dont like vista at all what can i do to bypass this

You need to slipstream your xp cd with the sata hard drive drivers, that should do the trick.

If I may chime in, I don't see why people keep saying they need to slipstream sata drivers for xp, cause I have no problem with not doing it.
As of the Intel ICH7 chipset, you don't need to do it.

The thing is, I believe the inspiron 1520 has a ICH8 chipset, you need the sata driver to get it to work.

I don't think so, but ok. I would say just try it and see. You haven't needed to slipstream for a couple of years now with intel chips.. I didn't have to with my e1705 and it's older than a 1520!

Actually, all you need is the Internet one (you can get it from support.dell.com). Put it on a flash drive and install it after XP installs, and then you can just go to support.dell.com to download the rest. Flash drives work before you install any drivers, as do CDs/DVDs.

XP runs great once you've got the most important drivers installed, no problems at all yet (close to a week on XP now). Windows move really jerkily before you get the video driver, though.

Acorn and Ti-Jean11, you have an "edit" button so that you don't have to post multiple posts in a row.
