When I do a clean XP SP2 install, I usually need to run the KB888111XPSP2 hotfix (or whatever it's called) from MS. This enables windows to detect the audio hardware for me. And then I install the software drivers for my audio (my case it's realtek). Try going to sigma tel's website and searching for drivers there. Manufacturer websites may or may not have the most recent drivers.

PCI device could be your ethernet...or wireless device. Not too sure about that one.

SM Bus controller could be the Smart Media stuff. Does a SD card work?

The SM bus controller issue in device manager is referring to the chipset you need to install the chipset driver. Go to intel's website and download the latest chipset driver for XP for the chipset that you have and see if that helps.
