    Hi All,

I purchased an Asus S56CA-BH51-CB ultra notebook and I downgraded the OS from Windows 8 to Windows 7 64 bit.

I went to the Asus website and downloaded all the drivers for the Windows 7 installation (since the notebook at one time
came with Windows 7 installed) and proceeded to install Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

    Things I did ==>

I adjusted the UEFI bios by ==>
    a) enabling CSM
    b) disabling secure boot

I then booted to a USB drive and installed
    Win 7 from it.

Anyhow, as soon as the OS installation was done
-----> even before I had installed any hardware drivers <-------
I tested the system to see if it would fully turn off or
go into sleep mode. (it would do neither!)

    a) When given the shut down command the unit
turns off except the light on the power button stays
    lit.

    b) When given the sleep command it does the same
thing as above and it won't go into sleep mode. On reboot
the computer will offer to re-start on safe mode.

In either case the only way I can re-start the computer
is to hold the power button down for about 8 seconds -
'till the light goes out - and then I can re-start.

Mind you, this is brand new computer, There are no problem
    driver installations in Device Manager.

On a lark I also downgraded the BIOS from v208 to v206 to see
if that would do the trick...but it didn't.

Does anybody know what is causing this and how to fix it?

I thank you for your help.

    Hi,

It was a clean install from a downloaded ISO through digital river, a MS reseller.

Did you install your chipset drivers? Why don't you install the drivers for your laptop and test again.

Add a graphics driver for good measure, many a times an improper - or lacking altogether - graphics driver will adversely affect the sleep function.

    Good luck.

Hi Pirx and ajkula66, thank you for your input.

    To recap ==>

I installed chipset driver (no change, problem persists)
Installed the video driver (also no change, problem persists)

One of the things I haven't tried is removing the BIOS battery,
Do you know it's location on the S56CA?

I thank you for your help and look forward to your reply.

More info as to what I've done to this notebook ==>

    a) Replaced the half-size 24 Gb mSATA cache SSD with a full size 128 Gb SSD mSATA from Plextor, see here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820249030

    b) I then replaced the platter based HDD that came with the unit (Toshiba 750 Gb SATA II, at 5400 RPM) with a Western Digital 500 Gb SATA III at 7200 RPM), see here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ... 600361780 600484453&IsNodeId=1&name=7200 RPM

    c) I replaced the memory – originally 6 Gb Samsung DDR3 1600 at 11-11-11-31 with 2 each 4Gb sticks of GSkill DDR3 1600 at 9-9-9-28 (total 8 Gb), see here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231472
