I am about to buy a netbook, probably the ASUS EEE 1005PE, and when home would want to use an external monitor most of the time. Now, most recent netbooks come with W7 Starter and I am told that Starter does NOT support ext monitor, whereas XP Home does. Is this really true??
If true, and having a minimalist attitude, I think that, rather than buying a more expensive netbook running a W7 version which does support VGA out, I would prefer to de-install W7 Starter and replace it with XP Home, which I have used for 4 years on my Toshiba Satellite Pro without any problems and which does all that I want. Would there be any problems simply swapping one OS for the other?
Your comments appreciated and my apologies if this has already been covered. Greetings from Denmark.

Uhm, no. Not true. Windows 7 starter supports external monitors. Windows 7 does not support hot swapping of analog rgb monitors, but it supports external monitors. Now, a given netbook may not support external monitors--that depends on the netbook, but it is not a deficiency of Windows

You can use a external monitor in Windows 7 Starter but like gerryf19 said you can not hot swap monitors, so no multi-monitor.
