I have been waiting forever for CompUSA to send me my discs. Does anyone know where I can download them free?
Thanks

...for free...no
Amazon has them for $4.99 -

Yeah that's the whole idea of torrents but only in theory. In practice it doesn't work out that way.
-
Why can't people talk about torrents?
People equate "torrents" with "pirating", which is just incorrect. Yes, torrents are used for pirating, but they are not intrinsically pirating. This kind of thinking is squelching the development of the "torrent" concept as a viable means of software distribution.
The Windows Anytime Upgrade disc should not be considered something that is pirated, it is simply a storage medium--they key here is that the license and any mechanism for validating the license is legitimate.
I will not be surprised if Microsoft follows suit to Linux and distributes its installation media via ISOs over torrents--indeed, I am surprised it has not occured already--lower bandwith for MS Servers -
Yeah i know gerry but the owners of the site don't want to deal with such a touchy matter so talking about it is banned. That's why all the torrent threads in OT get deleted.
-
so mainly the amazon.com site lets me download the disc and burn to dvd? Can someone send me a direct link the only ones I see are 50 and up. also I am not trying to pirate anything as my notebook came with Vista Ultimate so there is nothing really to pirate I just want to make a clean install asap.
-
I think what I am trying to say is that such a policy is unwise and should be reconsidered.
Blanket policies like that do a disservice to users. I am sure the moderators on these forums are intelligent enough to make rational decisions on when a post deserves to be deleted or not.
There is technically nothing wrong with even sharing a legitimate ISO image of Vista or XP provided it has not been cooked to avoid validation or promote piracy--Microsoft does not even copy-protect its CDs/DVDs in any way.
I am all for intellectual property rights and stamping out piracy, but let's not go so far that we make life difficult for legitimate users. -
Here, here. But we're making this off topic so i guess this should stop.
-
I took a second look and while it SAYS electronic downloadable version, there are a number of people in the reviews complaining that the description is incorrect and that you actually are buying a disc that is shipped to you.
Given the complaints in the review section, I suspect that Amazon is way behind on updating that page I am looking at:
http://www.amazon.com/Windows-Anytime-Upgrade-NAmerica-English/dp/B000MFDHRQ
If you read anything on the page, it says you are downloading, but the people are saying this is inaccurate -
so where can I downloaded it, I do not have torrent.
-
-
yea, you CAN'T clean install with upgrade any time.... but you CAN ask for a copy of the OS from the manufacture, also you can download a torrent, because its ok since u own a REAL copy, or use a friends disc with ur product key (it can be any version of vista u borrow, cause theyre all on the same disc, just sellect ultimate)
-
I thought you needed that disk to do a clean install ?
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=144783&highlight=stallen's+guide
So then what are the instructions to do a clean install? And what do I need?
Does anyone have a link for the torrent.
ps I wish ThinkPads would come with OS CD like back in the good old days. -

It's called anytime upgrade, but you are not using it to upgrade, just doing a clean install, using your oem keys. I've done it with the disk that came with my thinkpad.

The WAU DVD data is already present in the windows\sonysys\WAU folder because it has autorun info which opens up the setup.exe which installs vista.

How would this work if you have an OEM copy of Windows Vista Basic installed and then you purchase the Windows Anytime Upgrade for Ultimate?
If you tried to clean install off the anytime upgrade Ultimate disc wouldn't it reject the activation since it was meant for Vista Basic? Hence forcing you to install basic before upgrading to ultimate? -
Yes I was talking about clean install of the existing windows vista version, not upgrading. Guys here were mentioning that a clean install of vista ultimate can be done using the existing version of ultimate and WAU dvd.
So I was wondering if I could do a clean install with my existing home premium version. -
Is their away to do clean install without the DVD on a ThinkPad T61?
-
Do a search for wau and see. I am happy that I have the Windows Anytime Upgrade DVD stored in my system. -
the name "anytime upgrade" is misleading..it actually has all versions of vista in there...it is the license key that determines which one will be installed
they also CAN be used as a clean install....i have done it along with many other people on this thread -
so im still waiting for my disc which I ordered from Compusa over 3 weeks ago. anyone else?
-
just download it via torrents...im sick of MSFT charging for cd's they should have supplied in the first place!!!!!!!
-
I have sharezaa, but I don't know how do you have a link to a clean one that is NOT corrupt or hacked.
Thanks -
-
You may have the disc on your computer already. Some OEMs are copying the disc to the hard drive. Look for a folder called "WAU" which contains vista setup files. If you find that, look at the F-A-Q in my clean install guide to find information on burning it with vLite to be used as an install disc.
-
hence, this defeats the purpose of a clean install -
If you have a laptop with this folder on it, you can use those files to burn the Anytime Upgrade disc yourself, using vLite, and it will not include the bloatware... it will function as if you received the Anytime Upgrade disc itself. -
-
You can check ir ur laptop has that.
Click start > windows anytime upgrade > choose your edition (for me ultimate is displayed)> under then upgrade option a message will display whether your laptop is pre-configured for an upgrade.
The above method will only work for any vista version other than ultimate. Because there is no need for the OEM to load WAU in a vista ultimate laptop. -

Go to the search box at the top of this page and enter "anytime upgrade vlite" without the quotes for details.

Brian, honestly, there really shouldn't be any problems with posting an iso of a Windows ANytime Upgrade disk.
They are not copy protected in anyway--they are simply a means of distribution.
Certainly, if people were sharing cd-keys or activation cracks it would be a problem, but sharing a disk shouldn't be -
Who told that window anytime upgrade dvd's are not copy protected?. Any means of copying for a purpose other than personal use is illegal and it is piracy. Don't upload the iso files over the internet.
-
lol, i already have but i won't share them
on second thought, does some handsome guy want to come slap some handcuffs on me
