    Download songs off ipod to laptop?

    Is there anyway to download the songs off my ipod onto my girlfriends laptop? Any programs out there that do this?

    Floola has a great interface for this. Personally, I use Foobar2000's iPod plugin.

    WHen you copy the songs from the ipod to the machine, is there any loss of quality? Are the files copied perfectly with no loss of data?

    No loss of quality. You are just copying the same file your iPod plays, no recoding or anything similar.

    I wanted to report that I just tried Sharepod. All I can say is WOW! I love it. Like you said no install and I have not seen too many programs, in any genre, that is so well laided out and easy to use. I would definitely recommend this to anyone. Oh, and BTW, I couldn't find the IPOD -> PC functionality in Itunes 9.0. I didn't see it anywhere.

    Serious question though. Is the Zune not as proprietary as the IPOD? If it isn't I might get one next time.

    Not as proprietary in what way? You need to use the Zune software to sync to the Zune player, just like the iPod needs iTunes. If you get a Zune Pass vs buying off iTunes, you get to download 10 songs/month DRM free in addition to the unlimited DRM songs you can download each month.

    You answered my question. I wanted to know if you could just copy music files to the Zune like a mass storage device and not have to use special software like itunes. I really wish they made them like mass storage devices instead of this syncing crap.

    Oh well, with the older Zunes it is possible to use them as an external HDD, but I don't think so anymore with the Zune HD.
