    Link!

This is straight from MS, and contains an image of the XP SP3 disc that you can use to install XP on a computer. You still need your own key however.

Wow that was nice of Microsoft.

Do you think a system would be better using this SP3 disc than a disc they already slipstreamed with SP3?

Less clutter from old service pack files maybe?

The result would be the same. When you slipstream SP3 onto your disc, it also removes old clutter. Every service pack just contains updates to a bunch of files. When you slipstream a SP, it updates all the files directly on the disc. So there is no old clutter.

Don't think this is an XP SP3 install disc.

Think this is just an SP3 disc for upgrading currently installed XP.

Downloading it now. I'll tell you once I have opened it.

So this is an XP cd with SP3?

Seems a bit small, I'd have thought it would have been bigger?

Guess we'll find out. Also, what version of XP is it if it is a full installation disc? ;)

I downloaded it some while ago, and the files/folders in it aren't the same as of my XP CD. Is it just an SP3 image, or an image which contains SP3 slipstreamed with the XP setup, only needing a key for it to be installed?

    Hi.

I cannot boot from this for some reason, is it just an upgrade?

    Regards

Hello this is just the SP3 patch not the full XP install iso.

I have an original XP disk. I just downloaded this SP3 ISO 2 weeks ago to do a clean install of an old laptop. If you are using an original XP disk, you will need to update to SP1 before SP3 will update. Or at least that's what I had to do, even though MSFT says everything is in there.

That's what MSFT says too. Look at the system requirements section.

    Yup.

Non-Bootable is the biggest hint. And not having an I386 directory is another. This is only Service Pack 3 for installation on a preexisting XP installation.

    Guess so. ;)

I wonder what the difference is between this and the 320ish MB SP3 network install released a few weeks ago.

There must be some difference since it is 200MB larger...
I guess I'll need to make a new XP disc  . I just finished making my super-awesome everything included one yesterday!

Is that the .NET framework included there in your image WackyT? If so that would explain it. Hopefully it is because I couldn't find a way to slipstream .NET. Had to set up a silent post-Windows install.

It might be for all languages, that might explain the huge download.

I did the complete "stand alone" 316Mb download, save or install package on 02 May. Not one issue yet. XP SP3 is simply screaming along. Quick and and absolute joy to have on my computer.

    Cheers,
    Theo

All is good, this is good to have and seems to work a hell of a lot better the the Windows Updater SP3 install which has screwed up in some fashion form or way every single time I've used it.
