I have tried to install fonts from different sites onto my lappie, but it keeps telling me that it is an invalid file and comes up with asian characters underneath the message. I am assuming it is because of Vista because I installed most of these font on my old lappie which had XP. I was wondering if there was something special you had to do to download new fonts on Vista. Thanks for the help.

Oh I am using the Dell 1520 if that helps any.

Exactly what font were you trying to add? I am pretty sure almost all fonts are installed on vista already.

No, not all... lol... no where near. I've created several fonts... anyone can... I'd bet there are thousands of fonts not in vista (not all of them good :) ).

Anyway, I would search "font install vista" for some good threads on the subject.

Anyway, the issue has to do with permissions....

I've found that downloading the fonts, then doing a right click, then install normally works.

Well vista has all of the most used fonts pre-installed because i've never come in contact with a site that tells me i have to install a certain font to view it.

I build software... in one project we had to build a font due to license on fonts (it was an odd project). Anyway, that is when I started... actually fairly easy to build a font, you would be surprised.

I agree with you... vista has all the fonts most people need.

Most of the fonts people build are for "fun." X-mas fonts or sport fonts, or really serious horror fonts... I mean, lots of little stuff... really fun when you get into it. I've found most of the serious builders are for particular industries (printing, marketing, etc).

just a thought.. (sorry if I'm stating the obvious!) are you using homemade PostScript fonts from something like Fontographer? If so, one mistake I've made in the past without realising it was I'd exported the font in mac format! I didn't work it out for ages lol..
