    Hi...

I was wondering if you folks can help me out with suggestions for a software (preferably free), which I can use to make diagrams for a project that I am working on. To give you an idea of the kind of diagrams I am talking about, I am attaching a handmade sketch of one sample. It is somewhat of an urgent request.

    Thanks in advance...

    Cheers!

SketchUp is for 3D modeling, which I don't think is what the OP really wants. Last time I used SketchUp, it didn't have any kind of drawing/drafting feature. Has this been added?

I would like to introduce you some awesome drawing softwares.
    List:
    OpenCanvas(cheap)
    Corel Painter XI(moderate)
    Adobe Photoshop CS1, CS2, CS3, CS4(expensive)

Basically, I use Adobe Photoshop CS3 to do some drawing and painting.
See my works using Adobe Photoshop CS3 here, http://silver-fate.deviantart.com/
My works ain't good but you can have a look on how and what Adobe Photoshop can do.

From those uploaded drawings it looks like CAD software is in fact the best option.

CAD and 3D solid modeling are related, but different. SketchUp (the free version at least) does just 3D solid modeling, not CAD drawings.

Either way, the OP looks like he's trying to create some 3D surfaces/shapes with textures. I think you can upload your own textures in SketchUp.

I downloaded Google Sketchup and played around with it for a while. While I can do some of the outlines, there are things like waves, and shading, which I can't do - or more accurately, don't know how to do. Anyways, there are the other suggestions that some of you posted, which I am in the process of looking into.

    Thanks

Recommended by me as well. Excellent piece of software, my workhorse.
