I saw the program DriverMax in best freeware and downloaded but have a few questions.
It shows multiple Intel driver up dates but it looks like they're same one. Do I just download and install once?

All those drivers are related to the Northbridge and Southbridge Controllers.
Download and install the latest Chipset Drivers from intel's site. -
I had the same doubt too... but yes, after taking some to just check up, I did it just once... and it worked well.. the USB stuff for example..
and it updated for all, when u run a check after you install... I dont remember exactly which one, but there was one left out, but I just downloaded that one and installed again and it was all fine.. and it was quick too, since these intel driver things are pretty small in size. -
OK.
Also, it looks like, since I have duo core I have a driver for each? Is that correct? Download twice or for each?
-
OK, it seems like I'm getting conflicting answers. If any updated drivers have the same version number, is that enough? To download and install once?
Will it work for the other "controllers" with the same number?
What about some controllers having a different old version but same as others new version? -
I did it just once...
-
Yes, it did..
-
I don't get it.
Just download the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility from here (for your whichever chipset; 945GM ?).
Choose your OS, then Download "INF Update Utility - Zip Format", and run setup in it.
Whats to be done twice ?
-
No Andy, he is asking with respect to the drivermax thing... what he' seeing in drivermax, I guess.. Is that right, Hiker???
-
LOL.. I don't get it either. Why is the chipset listed twice?

I don't know why... because I didn't see this.. but just update it once...
-
Now I'm getting really confused. DriverMax says one version, Intel another.

Those are the display adapters, and they are listed twice in the Device Manager, due to the dual monitor config. That is nothing to worry about, just update it once, by running the setup inside the driver folder.
What are you actually trying to download and for which OS ? (XP MCE ?) -
MCE
I tried to "practice" updating and installing the sigmatel driver and got two errors, can not copy such and such .dll. Retry didn't work, had no choice but to cancel. DM installed the rest and I got bluescreened. reboot, no sound. Thankfully I have the driver saved in a folder on D:data from when I reinstalled winows in the spring. Reboot, sound.
Close enough, experiment over, revo to the rescue. -
So, were you able to install the chipset and display drivers ??
-
I didn't bother. Since I already uninstalled DriverMax, how can I find out if the version I have is actually outdated? I got the present ones off the Dell site this past spring.
-
You could check out the Driver Date and Version in Device Manager (in Properties), of the Display Adapter, and the Chipset drivers (check SMBus Controller), then compare it with the versions at intel's site.
If you are not experiencing any problems or bugginess, then the updates are not necessary.
I haven't updated drivers for a year.
-
OK, I tried to download the Intel utility, says I don't meet minimum requirements
-
Which utility ?
For chipset (XP MCE), download this and run setup. -
OK, downloaded the exe (after zip that didn't work) and that seemd to work, got my Intel drivers updated! Thanks
-
I hear you there! I just should have left well enough alone. Thanks again
-
If you want, you can update the GMA 950 drivers as well.
(I am tempted to update my drivers right now, but I hate restarting
)
-
heh... now I have GMA sitting in my tray. More options, I think, then I had before when I opened fro the control panel.
Driver help.
