yeah, but the trial offer puts an end.date of 1.oct.07 on the software??? So one have few days to back.up all comp drivers. No need to use the software to re.install the drivers - which is great new.

Not if you download it through the GiveAwayOfTheDay site and activate it by midnight tonight. If you do that it's a full licensed copy.

Yea, They included a Activate.exe within the Zip Folder. Just install with Setup.exe and Click Setup.exe afterwards.

Actually the instuctions say to unzip the files, run the Activate.exe FIRST and then install the app. I am not sure if the sequence matters or not. I did it the order the instructions said.

You mean the Downloading link is dead? Otherwise once Downloaded you don't even need the net to Activate.

"activation module failed to connect to giveawayoftheday.com. Software activation is not possible at the moment. Please try again later or check your firewall settings"

The Activate.exe doesn't go online, but it does send you to a link page. Maybe if Activation fails it sends you to another link page.

 

turning off firewall = no go! download the zip file again, no error in unpacking. ????? oh well

I think it HAS to go on line. The activations for GiveAwayOfTheDay downloads are all timed to expire at Midnight. I know seting your clock back to circumvent this does NOT work. So I think it does have to phone home to see if the offer is still active.

Your right ....... I dealt with other Free giveaways and never dealt with that before. That sucks because what if I what to install it later on a fresh install?

I have been able to reinstall some apps from GiveAwayOfTheDay a few months latter by keeping a copy of the installer, the Registry section for the app and a copy of the program files directory for the app. Then after a fresh OS Install, I ran the installer and let it do it's thing. I then overwrote the Program files directory and the registry section. It has worked for the two or three apps I got from them. But I suspect that it's all a matter of how clever the apps authors are about protecting their software.

Yea, I was also thinking to save the Program Folder. And see if it works later.


BTW ......Great site. I never knew about it before. Bookmarked for sure.

 

They have a companion site for a Game give away of the day, but it's more like a game give away every once in a while. Grin.

Nice program. I've been playing with it for a little while now. I burned a CD with all the non Microsoft drivers on my system. I'm ready now for any problems that may require a reinstall. Vista has been very solid for me but you never know. I may hose this thing somehow but now I'm ready.

Get the registry section too! I know for sure with one of the programs I needed to reinstall the registry was essential.

Wow, thanks for posting this. Gotta love a great offer like this one. I have heard of this software before but usually just find my drivers again the hard way after a fresh install.

I downloaded the software and my activation worked immediately the first time I tried it. I did not have to disable firewall settings or forward any ports. The time on my activation was 6:22 p.m. EDT. I had no problems installing the software after the activation.

For anyone having trouble with the activation you might want to try it again now.

Thanks again for posting this. It will be a huge time saver for my next back-up.

 

... Hmm. Well, I hope when I d/l it to my compupter, that you guy's are refering to U.S. Central Time. Because that'll be at about 11-11:30 ish when I get off work so I can get this.
