My brother took my laptop for a bit and tried installing alcohol 120% on my M1530 with vista 32 bit home premium. Apparently he tried installing the windows XP version of this program, which included a driver install that results in immediate BSODs as soon as I boot, even in safe mode. Is there any way to get around this so I can do a system restore or just get rid of this driver even with the BSODs as soon as I log in? I think a repair install is an option, but I've read that the vista disk my computer came with from Dell is only good for a complete Vista reinstall, which is out of the question because I have lots of data on there that isn't backed up.

Well, throw the disc in there and fire it up! See what happens! ;)

And sure enough I find that system restore is one of the options, and I'm typing now on my fully functional laptop once again! Silly me, thank god I haven't lost that disk yet!

First thing you need to do if you haven't already is to kick your brother's a$$.

After that, what you need to do is a Vista Advanced Startup Boot, which allows you to enter Vista in a diagnostic mode to repair it. To view the procedures available and what each doese, go to this link: http://tinyurl.com/69gntg

You can access the Advanced Startup screen by hitting your F8 key on startup (should be on your screen).

Your best option is probably Last Known Good Configuration startup, which starts Windows with the last registry and driver configuration that worked successfully.

Once completed, NEVER let your brother near your system ever again. EVER. On pain of death....
