I downloaded and install Driver Robot (it is driver update software, for those of you that don't know). When I did the scan it found some outdated drivers. Among them are Intel(R) 82801 HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller, Intel(R) ICH 8 Family SMBus Controller - 283E and others (total 18 outdated drivers). Now, I want to add that I have the official drivers for my laptop from the support website (it's fujitsu's website).
What to do in this situation? Do we trust this driver update apps? Should we use it?
Thanks for reading this, and sorry for my English.
P.S. I also want to know if it is recommended to update the chipset driver software, because Intel announces updates from time to time, and this is not followed by the laptop driver support from fujitsu. My current chipset driver is from 2007 (it is v8.3.0.1013) and it sounds outdated, doesn't it?

Manufacturers are usually behind with the driver updates so im not surprised it found outdated drivers.
Checking the Intel website for driver update is probably the best and safest way. Try running Windows Update as well and see if it finds those same driver updates. -
a) does it cost money?
b) where does it download the drivers from?
c) are you in complete control or does the software insist on running by itself?
d) what does the software do that msft update and a monthly or quarterly perusal of two or three web sites do not? -
I use drivers update software strictly for reference only. If MS or the manufacturers do not offer update drivers and if my comp has no issue with performance - I leave the drivers alone, no matter how old they are.
cheers ... -
Its difficult to say whether its a good idea to just update all drivers.
On the Sony SZ the X3100 (often) overheats with the latest Intel drivers but runs cool with the oiginal Sony drivers which are older.
On the other hand, I updated my touchpad drivers and I think that scrolls smoother now.
Basically:
Don't just blanket update everything as it may lead to problems.
Certain hardware may benefit from driver updates, but not all will. -
basic rule of thumb when updating drivers - if its not broken don't update it!!
1. always use the driver from the lappy maker
2. only update when a problem arises.
3. do not mass update drivers
4. if the drivers from lappy dont work download drivers from hardware maker.
5. again do not mass update drivers
this is what i do and i never have had a problem with drivers. only update when you need too. -
I support this point also. Most likely I won't use the software (just uninstaled the trial version). However, I did update my wireless driver from the downloadcenter.intel and actually it solved the problem. My wireless card is working excellent now. Before this update, when I was connected to wireless network the internet connection would block after some time and I couldn't disconnect and then reconnect to the wireless network. The only way was to restart windows. But once back on the net with the wifi the problem aroused again, and again, and again... now everything is working ok.
Driver update software - should we use it?
