Would it make sense to dual boot as stated above? This would allow me to play older games that my sons like, but enjoy the benefits of x64 otherwise.

    "benefits of x64"
Can you tell me more of those?

I would dualboot XP Professional and Vista x32. Vista for showing off and XP Professional for some real work that needs to be done fast. Yeap, thats what I would doo :)

Vista x64 can run 32-bit software through an emulation layer. You can always check with Google as to whether specific games, old or new, will run on 64-bit Vista.

Some of the older games do not even work with Vista (I've tried...but they were REALLY old). You're best bet might be running a Virtual Machine, so you could run Windows XP or 2000 or 98 or whatever from inside of Vista.
