has anyone done this? Vista 32 and W7 64. I want to dual boot both.
-
You can dual-boot the two, but how does that question stand in relation to Bit-Locker?

Now, from pure enryption logic, this would only work if you encrypt the partitions individually or they share the same key.
Alternatively, only encrypt specific files, not the HDD. -
Woops, never mind. I thought you meant dual boot linux / windows, not Vista / 7.
-
Vista and W7 have different BL implementations. Have read lots of articles. MSFT suggests installing Vista activate BL then turn off. Then install W7 and activate BL. W7 with BL on can read Vista parition. Vista with BL on cannot read W7. I'm OK with that. Just I have both OS' isntalled on sep partitions already rather than their suggestion of install Vista blah blah then install W7.
Any input? BTW this is like surgery. Cant just go in and experiment and then expect result for the patient. Have to understand first. -
If you don't mind, I'm just curious.. Why do you want Vista and 7? I can understand XP and 7, but what is your reason for wanting to keep Vista? Not saying you shouldn't, like I said.. Just curious!

It just so happens that I can read up on Bitlocker and discover that this feature takes some work in order to get it running on a dual-boot system. Read here:
Brief summary: http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2006/05/bitlocker.html
Example with instructions (Vista, Server 08): http://blogs.technet.com/richard_macdonald/archive/2008/07/19/3091052.aspx -
Bog and others, I graciously thank you. i've read those but they dont help. Question is stated in the prior post.
-
Is there a reason to believe that the example involving Vista and Server 08 will not work out with Vista and 7 64-bit? It might be worth a try, just to see if it works.
Otherwise, consider using a program like TrueCrypt, which can encrypt pretty much anything. -
My question relates to deviating from MSFTS suggested method of installation as I already have both OS's installed. Dug this up, which is a similar scenario, but there doesnt seem to be an answer. I could try to enable BL in both but not following the suggested method could botch everything. Don't want to go through that!
