    Can it be done?

    And if so, how?

I want to boot Windows XP off my external which is a Western Digital My Book, 320 Gigs, at 7200 RPMs and i have 280 Gigs left. The reason i want to boot of it, is because my HD in my computer isnt very large, and i have only 8 gigs left.

It COULD be done, but you first have to partition the ext HD. This, however, depends whether or not your laptop supports booting off of USB. Also, even if it does, it's going to be extremely slowly due to the USB bandwidth bottleneck
