    Original title... not so much

    Original question... I hope so

Ok so heres the deal. I set up RAID 0 on my 6860-FX (gateway), and after reinstalling windows (Home premium 64bit) i noticed 1gig of my RAM is missing in some places.

In my RAID boot it cycles through 4096mb and in windows system screen i list as 4.00gb of RAM, but most everything (like my task manager and stuff) only reads my computer as having 3072mb of RAM.

I have tried seating and unseating each module and they both read as 2gb modules, and i made sure i installed 64bit windows i actually did a reinstall just to make sure, and still i'm getting the same oddball situation.

Does anyone have any ideas what is going on and where my last gig of ram went?

    I stole it :D

Umm.... Just to be sure... If you go to "Computer" it does say Memory (RAM): 4 or 3 gb... and under that it says System Type: 64-bit Operating system?

Also, what chipset is it? 945(Napa), 965(Santa Rosa), or a new GM45 (Montevina). If its the Napa, the memory controller limits how much the system can address, much like a 32bit operating system.

well then give it back! Theif! :p

yeah it shows 4gb and 64-bit OS. I made very sure of this because sometimes i wouldnt put it past me to have installed the 32bit accidently, but i checked my p's and q's to make sure it was all correct

Santa Rosa, i actually had 4gb before i set up my RAID array, and i appear to be the only FX user that lost a gig of RAM for setting the array up so i'm curious at what happened.

Try booting with a single 2GB module, and see the RAM available in taskmgr.

    I have.

I actually tried it with both sticks individually and both show the full 2 gigs... in the boot scan and in all applications. So both RAM modules are fully operational i just some reason lost a gig in some situations for no reason that i can tell :(

So, with 2GB installed, taskmgr shows 2GB ?

RUN > msconfig > Boot > Advanced Options, and check if any "Maximum Memory" has been specified for Vista 64.
