Hi! I'm looking for a free duplicate file remover utility. That being said, I need one that offers little to no chance of me screwing up my computer. I'm kinda new to this and I'm still learning, so the chances of me screwing something up are definitely higher.

Any suggestions, questions, etc. on what to use and/or do would be hugely appreciated.

    Thanks!

just careful what you delete, as some programs by the same company's may use the same files in a few of there programs and need them in there own folders to run and these programs just see them as duplicates

I appreciate the suggestions for the programs. I still need to know what I have to do NOT to screw up my $1,700 laptop. If I make a restore point, may I then just delete away and see what happens? Do I have to go file by file, Google-ing each of them?

Any additional help with this would be greatly appreciated. :)

I'd say if they're jpegs and whatnot you're probably safe in deleting the duplicates. If they belong to programs/Windows though, I'd just leave them be. They don't take up much space anyway. But maybe someone more knowledgeable about this stuff can chime in.

I used one of these recently, and was surprised to find all the duplicate pictures and videos and had strewn about my computer. Most likely from accidentally dropping them into the wrong file, accidentally making copies, etc.

There might be duplicate files, that need to stay duplicated. You can't just delete them blindly.

From all duplicate finders the thing that bugs me is that i didn't found any yet that made possible to choose the driver i wanted the duplicate files deleted from when comparing two drivers.

What makes you think you NEED to remove duplicates in the first place? My suggestion is to get a program that FINDS duplicates and gives you a list. Then look at that list and see if it is really worth the effort. Unless there is a significant amount of duplication eating up disk space, why even bother?
