Im not sure if this is the area it belongs so if the moderators would like to move it please do.

Im trying to figure out how to convert Avi files to Dvd format AND burn them.

I've tried a bunch of different "Free" programs but non have worked. Currently I am trying DVD Flick but it seem it just converts it to MPEG file. When I try to burn that file to a dvd it wont work in my home dvd player.

    Anyone have a suggestion?

Imageburn should work. Try Divx converter/ player.

    have you tried avi2dvd?
I normally use WinAVI to convert them.
Personally though, for the small cost, I would recommend you go get a DivX capable DVD player. I like the Philips 5990 which has a front usb port that runs at USB 2.0 speeds. Very convenient.
You can find cheaper ones like 3982 but they are not USB 2.0. They will play DVD's that have divX/xvid files on them as well as regular dvd's.

If you look at DVDs, thei files end with .ifo or .vob - but I think its MPEG "at heart"

    Opensource Media Convertor (Advanced): MediaCoder
Freeware Media Convertor (Simpler): Format Factory

I hope these files are placed in Windows7 supposid repository, so people don't think you need to buy $99.99 of crappy software.

I've just installed dvd flick to have a butchers.

All I done was clicked 'Add title' found the .avi that I wanted to covert double clicked to open in dvd flick, kept everything set as default, changed the destination folder to something I wanted. Then clicked on 'create dvd' it comes up with a warning about deleting everything in the destination folder press ok and let its do it thing. Once finished you'll have a dvd folder along with 6 files, ignore those, open the dvd folder and you should have a 'video_ts' and 'audio_ts' folder there the two you want to burn.
So either use img burn which is included with dvd flick, which is in dvd flicks folder in program files or whatever you normally use.
Alternatively goto 'project settings', 'burning', 'burn project to disc' leave the burn speed as is 2x.
Or you can create an image and then burn that with img burn.
