And, if you check your local Library system "online", they will probably have a nice E-book access - Such as Netlibrary or Overdrive!

I personally like mobipocket after using the MS reader on my tablet... it's just that MS seems to have abandoned their eReader project as far as I can tell.
Also, I'd be remiss if I failed to mention the huge selection of free books at Project Gutenberg. -
