    Hi all,

I'm using a Samsung N130 netbook (Atom N270 1.6GHz), Windows XP SP3, all patches. For some reason the fan is blowing an awful lot, practically all the time, when plugged into AC.

Battery isn't so bad but I believe that's the BIOS setting the fan activation temperatures higher, rather than a Windows power control setting - processor throttle is set to "adaptive" on AC and Battery.

The thing is, I'm pretty sure this wasn't doing this a month ago, before the latest block of patches came down from MS update (February 2011 Patch tuesday). Plus I used to be able to see the clock speed change - System Properties would sometimes say 1.6GHz, sometimes 800MHz. Now it's always 1.6GHz, even when the CPU has been idle (<5%) for some time.

Could EIST have been disabled by these patches? Or was it me? I have been changing powercfg settings in an effort to get this thing to stop with the fans...

    Thanks!
