not so easy. lately its been hit and miss, mostly missing. i put 2 files in, get 1 file out. that one file is usually the first file i put in. checking the website shows that it hasnt been updated in 6 years shows little promise. i have been using format factory's merger capabilites to some sense of success. i would like something quicker though. any suggestions? :p

Just convert them to wmv with something like vlc and use movie maker to join them.

But both of those steps require reconversion, right? The "beauty" of Easy Video Joiner was its ability to stitch files together WITHOUT a reconversion step.

Yeah and look how rubbish it is.

I use xilisoft video converter, if the videos aren't avi files. If they are avi files I put them through VirtualDub and join them that way.

Another great option is to use Format Factory (freeware). There is a video merger feature under the advanced tab.

Can ANY of these alternatives folks are suggesting join two WMV files WITHOUT having to reconvert the entire video? The operative word being WITHOUT???

I don't think this is possible. Videos are not like PDFs, they all have several variables which need to be addressed (bit rate, file type, sampling rate, etc etc) so you can't just "join" them together. You will need to re-encode the two videos together.

It sure is possible. Easy Video Splitter and Easy Video Joiner, as out dated as they are (they won't run under Vista), will let you split and join WMV files without the need to reconvert the video. I am doing so right now as I type this. It can only split and join at keyframes of course. But it does work on my old XP machine which still has Windows Media Player 9 installed on it.

actually EVJ can run on vista. i also stated in my first post that i do use format factory. and windows movie maker takes an really long time to join vids together. every time i have used wmm i set up and let it go overnight while sleep.

Sorry, I miss spoke. It was the companion Easy Video Splitter that complained when I tried to run it on Vista. It threw a message about needing the most recent version of Windows Media Player. (I think it wants version 9, which is what I have on my old XP box, where it runs just fine.) I have not tried the Joiner app on Vista.

They All can. As long as the format of both files is identical otherwise you'll be reencoding at least one of them. I'd use AVIDeMux.

Tbe best and easiest video joiner is AVI MPEG RM WMV joiner. No need to mess with codecs, it maintains your file type. And it's fast too. http://www.boilsoft.com/
