This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved.     Easy, FREE fix for no DVD sound in Vista Basic.

    First, if Media Player 11 won't play DVDs at all, there's a hack for that. (I'll leave it up to you to find, I used Vista Manager.)

    But then if your version is Home Basic, you won't get any sound because Microsoft has disabled AC3 audio decoding and wants you to go buy a plugin from either Roxio or Cyberlink.

    Well poo on them! Get a FREE fix from www.ac3filter.net That's an open source AC3 codec that enables Media Player and many other programs to use that sound format.
