I was planning on spending 200$ for a version of windows, but looked through ebay and found an OEM home premium for much cheaper. The seller has a 30day exchange policy as well as 99.8% positive on 11,247 ratings.
Seem safe enough?

You can get OEM Home Premium for around $110 on newegg.com and its a much more reliable source.

Oh, wow, i would've sworn it was more expensive on newegg..you're right!

I use ebay everyday, either through buying or selling, and it's very safe aslong as you know what your doing.
-
I have bought from Viosoft before and they have it for $108.13. Free shipping.
-
and how would you know what you are doing??????

I suppose... for me... i always look for power sellers.. n see the reputations... if the have like 99% reputation with over 10,000 ppls already given reputations... it give me more confidence... cause seems like the % that the will be faulty during the business deal will be less...
thats at least what i've done... for other seller, i only buy if that thing is really seldom to get, n the price is not so high...
i bought a lot from ebay too...

read the fine print, know what recourse you have in case you get the crap end of the stick (PayPal buyer protection RULES), common sense- if it's too good to be true it probably is, and don't buy from China (I'm Chinese, so no racism here
)
A seller's feedback usually isn't an issue for me as long as there is PayPal Buyer Protection and they don't have chronic negatives.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
OEMs are usually a good deal as long as you know about your system. Microsoft does not support OEMs. And you can install them technically only on one computer.

yeah OEM is one computer only... so be weary.
Your much better off with an upgrade disk, its even cheaper and comes with the license for multiple machines. -
I disagree with Johnny_1987.
It really should depend on what it is. If it is some small goods hardware that should not be needing much after sales support or have self-explanatory menu/interface, then it does not rule me out from buying it from sellers residing in China (e.g MP3 player, USB2 cards). Afterall, most hardware products are made in China. But anything software, I stay well clear from sellers residing in China. -
eBay satisfaction = 40% of common sense + 40% luck + 15% of more luck + 5% of acceptance that u r going to be screwed somewhere/somehow
cheers ... -

If your smart you should be fine on ebay. You need to have common sense to use it properly.

The key is reputation for ebay (when you're buying at least). Make it a rule never to pay with money order/cashier's check, always pay with a credit card. If you're selling something, get yourself a Paypal account and accept payments from verified and confirmed buyers only, that way you are protected by Paypal policy.

Usually I won't buy technology stuff related on ebay unless they are really cheap.
Ebay...safe enough?
