Hey, I've got a TV Tuner and am recording some series' of my favourite TV programmes - the thing is, I'd like to cut out the adverts and am wondering if its possible?
I have this ULead video editing software (which is ancient) and when I search for the video file - it just shows the folder as being empty.
Basically all I'd like to know is - is there any software that i can buy (or free is even better) that will recognise the Microsoft Recorded TV Show format (.dvr-ms) so I can cut out the adverts?

    Thanks

Ah, well I've found out taht perhaps there is a problem - i've managed to cut out the adverts using Windows Movie Maker, but have come across a new problem:
When I play the edited file it doesn't fill the whole screen (even though I've put it on full screen) theres a black strip either side of the video... so its not in the wide screen format anymore (i think)
    Can anyone resolve that issue?

I had tried cutting adverts out using other software (but it also converts the file format) - but doing this, the video and audio is out of sync - so, so far:
    * I've got rid of the adverts
    * The video & audio quality has stayed the same

but i think its in 4:3 format! Grrr!

I just realsied something which had kind of answered my question earlier about the widesceen thing - the programme is in the 4:3 format, but the adverts are in widescreen, so that solves that problem.

So i've cut the adverts in the programmes which is brilliant as it really brings down the file size, I then backed it up onto my pendrive, and to make sure they still worked - I tried playing them, and this message came up and I couldn't play the file - even though it worked before!
Has anyone come across this before?

That's a warning that comes up because you've changed the file-name extension. Try renaming the file so that it has the original extension (I think it was ".dvr-ms") to see if that avoids the warning. At any rate, if you click on the "Yes" button the file should still play so long as it hasn't been internally corrupted.

Right, i tried renaming the file extention - no joy, and even if i click yes, it wont play the file.
What I cant understand is, it works before its copied to the memory stick, but once thats happened, it wont play anymore - im completely foxed!

I recommend using Comskip to remove commercials. Comskip identifies the commercial breaks, but you'll need another program to actually cut them out.

I had created a program (ComCut) that automates the process for MPG files, but not for DVR-MS files.
