Guys,
Have u noticed your entire movie experience gets ruined when seeing it on WMP??
I was watching American gangster last nite.. i had to Set the process priority to High for Divx codec & WMP.
Coz the Frames were messed up... the Framerate was falling a lot .. and then suddenly to keep it synced with Audio the DIVX would fast-forward it.
In this process My entire movie experience was getting messed up.. coz of LAg
But on other players like VLC performance was Great .. although quality wasnt so good.. very blur image.
Who is the culprit?
1.my AMD Turion 64X2 TL-56 @ 1.8 GHz ?
2. Too many background services. (ITS VISTA!!! ) around 74 processes. (No sidebar)
3. Divx+ WMP?
4. Comp. was running the entire day as i was Gaming like crazy... so maybe it was Tired?
5. Geforce Go 6100?
6100 isnt that n00b i think coz even Geforce 5 series easily playback DVDrips.
If its AMD's fault ... then pls let me know... i will change my laptop.
Coz i watch movies on laptop a lot & i need the Best experience.

alternatively... which is the best Media player for Watching High quality movies? which gives the BEST quality?
-
try KMPLAYER,its free and works good even on my old ibm!
-
Try giving k-lite codecs ago. Sounds like a codec issue when FPS lags and things are out of sync. Your computer specs seem to be capable.
I believe quality mostly depends on your codec not the player your running.
Also a whole days gaming could make your laptop run sluggish, so you might wanna restart. -
I used WMP for playing DVDs and gave me no problems. I don't use Windows Media Center. I also use Roxio's Cineplayer.
-
I Like using Media Player Classic in most instances along with the CCCP codec pack http://www.cccp-project.net/ (Media Player classic comes along with the package)
and i would also agree that it seems to be a codec issue b/c the computer should easily be fast enough for that type of playback -

It is not AMD's fault, It is probably your codec packs.
Also try to reduce the number of processes running in the background(70+ processes is a lot, I use only about 39 processes)
Try using different players too, Media Player Classic is the one I use -
I use Winamp for audio, and VLC for video. Haven't even run WMP once!
-
I use Winamp for Audio & Video. Sometime I need to use VLC. I also have DIVX codecs installed.
I only use WMP to rip Audio from my CDs and/or get Album Artwork. -
As others have said, get a codec pack like k-lite or CCCP and use Media Player Classic that comes with it. That will smooth things over for you.
-
I did try K-lite codec... but the quality was inferior compared to DivX.
and it also uninstalls DivX.
How about KMPLAYER? as Xirurg mentioned? -
-
I use VLC and more recently, GOM Player, awesome settings and very easy to use, and to top that , great image and audio

For the most part I use WMP to listen to music but may watch DVD's with Power DVD. I recently reinstalled XP and had to download G-Force off the net. This version had annoying reminders to upgrade, so I broke down and bought G-Force Platinum for $24. Love it.
-
I install (ack) iTunes (ack) to rip CDs, and then uninstall it.
-
-
I use Winamp for everything -- It really whips the llama's ass
-
Screw the Media players! i ve ordered my new HDTV..
Sony Bravia KLV-40V300A !! 40" .. its coming tomm.
I ll watch all movies on my new TV! so excited.
Monster HDMI cables are the best rite? -

I bought a $10 cable from ebay.. works fantastic.

Make sure you try MPlayer, Media Player Classic, and Winamp, with CCCP and K-Lite installed. Also, it could be that your PC is not good enough to handle Vista and an HD movie (I don't know enough about Vista to be sure though).
Either my comp is n00b or i should ditch WMP.
