I was thinking about this the other day. How many people actually still use an email client like Outlook or Thunderbird to manage their emails? I don't have an email client installed on my laptop. I just use gmail, my school's online email, and my online MSN email account. I don't need Outlook. Does anyone else do the same?

Yes. I use Thunderbird for both my personal email client and my RSS Reader, and I have Outlook 2007 installed (although not configured for email) for the additional backup that provides for my PDA when WMDC syncs it.
I do not have nor use gmail. -
I vote no. Same reasons as you Tim.
-
I am just like you Tim, I never had the need for any email clients. I prefer to use services like Hotmail,Live, gmail etc.
-
. Though, I use MS Office Outlook Web Access for my schools email so does that count as using Outlook?
-
I don't use an email client because for me it's a lot easier and less stress on the system to open up Firefox and have my gmail checker extension tell me whether i have email or not.
-
-
I use Windows Mail for my personal mail, and Novell Groupwise for my school email.
Both very easy to use. -
-
Work Exchange account here to manage my calendar and contacts. So Outlook is DEFINITELY needed here. But I'm in a niche compared to the rest of the market.
-
Outlook at work; Gmail at home.
So, I voted no -
Yeah I use MS Office Outlook Web Access for my school's email too...and I think that counts as an online email client. LOL
Tim -
Thunderbird here. It's nice having all 5 email accounts show up in one place (Gmail, School e-mail, Comcast, Hotmail, & Yahoo)...plus you can see all of your messages when you don't have a connection (offline mode).
P.S. I don't pay for POP acccess to Hotmail or Yahoo, use Webmail extension, it works perfectly for me. -
I just recently set-up my Gmail account using Windows Live Mail, sort of like Windows Outlook Express except that this one's made for Windows Vista.
I set-up my account as an IMAP instead of POP. This is greatly advantageous to me since if I view and e-mails from www.gmail.com on a different computer, I can still view them here on my laptop through Windows Live Mail later on. IMAP allows me to synchronize my Windows Live Mail account on my computer to my Inbox, Sent Items, Trash, Spam, etc. online. Also, it doesn't delete the e-mails from online once they are downloaded to my computer.
I find Windows Live Mail looks much more professional than the going to www.gmail.com to check my e-mail. However, on the few occasions I check and send e-mails on different computers, I rest assured knowing I will be able to see those e-mails in my Inbox and Sent through Windows Live Mail. Also, if I send an e-mail through Windows Live Mail, a copy of that e-mail will not only find itself in the Sent Items folder in Windows Live Mail but also in the Sent Items folder I have in my online Gmail account.
I love it.
EDIT: I meant "Windows Mail" and not "Windows Live Mail". -
I do use an email client, but I don't need to.
-
-
Thunderbird when at home, web based when I'm not
-
I've never tried Thunderbird. I'm new to e-mail clients so I'm just using Windows Mail.
Is Windows Mail to Thunderbird like IE to Firefox? I'm not talking in terms of Microsoft to Mozilla but more along the lines of security and freedom of customization.
I haven't had any problems with Windows Mail and I like the interface. -
Outlook 2k7 for work as need more functions than just the email. And Gmail Personal
-
Well MS Exchange Push is invaluable to me. I use it with Mail2Web w/ outlook on my WM6 Phone.
On my PC I use POPPeeper. Works Flawlessly and is extremely simply and low resource. -
Outlook 2000 at work and home. Faster than web based, I sometimes need to do searches, I like the junk mail features, I can put saved emails in folders.
-
I use thunderbird cause verizon's webmail sucks. I also get AOL mail through thunderbird-I really wanna try Netscape's new client though.
-
Also I hate these new Web Based Email Designs.
Windows Live & Yahoo Mainly. I hope Gmail never changes it's layout in that direction. -

^^^ How is that the Opposite. I think you read my post wrong.
I'm saying that the new Hotmail Live & Yahoo Email Page Sucks. And I'm hoping Gmail never upgrades in that direction. On Yahoo, it never loads correct for me either and I have to click the "classic" link on the error pop-up.
It would be nice for Gmail to have separate or split screen to drag and drop. -
-
I use windows mail
-
-
That's exactly why I don't use my RCN Email account.
-
I use Thunderbird for email at work, and thats as much I interface with email clients...Gmail is the way to go
People who need email clients are probably those who have particular domains at work or school, or want to be able to read any email at any time, as email clients store the emails locally. -
The thing with e-mail clients is that you can do a lot more with your e-mail and much easier too.
For one thing, I only have to click once to check my e-mail. I click on Windows Mail and voila, I see my e-mail.
Secondly, you can do so much more with your e-mail in terms of settings. If you send an e-mail and you want to be sure the recipient opens it, you can request to be notified at the moment the e-mail is opened.
Thirdly, it looks so much more pro! -
And lets not forget the time it saves, and the Offline and/or no browser needed aspect.
-
For those of you who weren't aware, Thunderbird has a pretty slick addon called Lightning. It is a calendar add-on that you can sink with Google calendar...which I think is pretty nifty!
And for the person who asked about Thunderbird a few pages ago, yes Thunderbird is fairly customizable, skins and all, not as many add-ons as Firefox, but that's just b/c it has a smaller user-base. -
I have 3 e-mail accounts, so yes. I find it much more convenient that way. I use Thunderbird btw.
-
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
I have three email accounts. I prefer to use the online interfaces.
-
I use Thunderbird for mostly all the reasons posted previously... manage all accounts in one place, can access emails while offline, better/more features than web-based, faster than outlook.
-
I prefer to use an email client, in my case Windows Live Mail. Its so much easier and intuitive to have all my email accounts accessible in the one place and at once. I also find it useful since I will be alerted to new email which is useful since its not all too uncommon for deadlines for my work to change an hour before the original deadline. I've also found that Windows Live Mail is the only email client that I've been able to get along with. It wasn't as difficult or as bewildering to set up as Thunderbird or Eudora.
-
I've been using Thunderbird for the last couple of years - I've got around eight different work related email addresses, so I need a proper email client.
I'm using GMail for most of my personal mail, but I run that through Thunderbird as well with POP3. Not just because I already have the client running anyway, but because I much prefer it to a web interface. -
Outlook forever here. Doesn't Gmail "read" your e-mail and enclose a context sensitive AD in that important e-mail to your client? Do you want your client focused on YOUR business proposal, or Gmail's AD? I have never gotten that, and think it is indicative of a complete overload of ads. I have absolutely NO respect for people that are either oblivious to this or think that sending me yet another ad with each e-mail they send is OK.
-
Yup. I use Outlook 2003 to manage my ISP, GMail, and Hotmail accounts.
-
Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I do have Yahoo and a Hotmail account for when I want them
-
I have to check about 8 imap accounts.... outlook 2007 for me. I have a yahoo, hotmail, gmail, and aol accounts as well... I imap aol in and use that for backup for my other email.... yahoo, hotmail and gmail I mainly use those to contact those companies, testing purposes, etc... in other words, I check them everyday, but they don't hold anything important.
I have all my business and personal email through everyone.net personal mail accounts... their filters blow hotmail, aol, yahoo, and gmail out the water... for a low cost each year....
All good though, does not matter, whatever rocks your boat.... lol
New outlook is a great app... one of the best I've used in '07. -
Never used Outlook or Thunderbird. I have never had any problems with online mail clients, even the betas.
-
What browser do you use to check mail?
-
-
I was asking PurpleBlondie, because she stated she never had any problems with online mail clients, even the betas. So I figured she might be using IE.
-
no, i like Gmail's web interface
-
I use outlook 2007 for mail and calender.
-
Most of the time I use Firefox, but sometimes I need a change and use Opera.
Oh and by the way, welcome back. -
Gmail only nowadays. Anytime, anywhere
I've even chucked Outlook also for Google Calendar.
