    Hi Guys;

    I have a heavily modded Windows XP and worked well since last day when it refused to boot up.I went about to fix it by pressing "F8" on start up and using "Restore last known settings".It booted up well and then the other problems started.

    1)The drivers though physically installed are not found and has to be re-installed again!
    2) When I right clicked my computer icon there were options like re-start and shutdown which opened a DOS window and did the actions quite fast.They are missing!
    3)Some applications and games refuse to work demanding a re-install.

    It appears that some of the components are not loading with the windows.I looked in MSCONFIG but could not find any.Any onw know how to fix them?

    Thanks

    I assume system restore is off......

    Those are some odd problems and aren't indicative of any common or uncommon issues. Sounds like something more serious.

    Unfortunately my magic wand isn't working today. So I think you are out of luck my friend.

    This is exactly what "Restore last known Settings" does.
    When you first boot up, Windows writes the all the devices discovered and such to an area in the registry. When you install drivers, those changes are written to a separate area of the registry. All "Restore last known Settings" does is use the settings from the last completed bootup.
    Ya, this is indicative of a lot of things, none of them good.
    3)Some applications and games refuse to work demanding a re-install.

    Time to abandon ship buddy. Backup your data.
