Hey guys.i have a 7.1 surround channel subwoofer. The realtek audio hd manager seems to detect them all and i'm able to hear sound from all the speaker when i click on test. However, media player seems to be playing my songs only in 2.1. Where am i going wrong? Btw, it's my desktop computer running vista home premium with the default media player 11.

Try download CCCP and set speaker setting in the CCCP settings application.
I believe it has an option for sound expansion, but I could be mistaken..

Whichever application you are using, you must make sure that FFDShow Audio is being loaded and used to possibly make it work.

Songs are all coded as 2.1. The only way to get 7.1 is to virtually do it. FFDShow can upscale the audio to 7.2 from 2.1 (it'll sound very airy), but 7.1 can only be transmitted through an optic or spdif connection unless your computer has 6 analog out connections.
