    Basically I don't want to spend my hard-earned money on MS Office when there's a perfectly good free alternative in OpenOffice, however I do want to use the program EndNote as my citation manager;

    My question is: does anybody have any experience with EndNote in Open Office? AFAIK both OO and EndNote are Vista-compatible, but I've been unable to find if they are compatible with each other!

    Thanks a bunch!

    AFAIK EndNote only works with Ms Word. Endnote does have a copy paste function where you switch to Endnote press copy switch back to Open office and paste the citation. Not as comfortable as with Ms Word but it works.

    Dang that's what I thought. Thanks for the quick replies. I'll look into Bibus then, cheers.

    At the risk of revealing my noobiness: what is RTF? meh :)

    Much obliged fellas. Looked up Bibus and methinks we have a winner. Have you tried it in Vista? (Pardon my scepticism, I was equally sceptical when XP came out :))

    My experience with Vista has been mixed; I like the eye candy, and that's about it. I am an academic who uses lots of writing and statistical analysis software. Vista is not ready yet for software I use daily [Edit: Rather, my software is not ready for Vista yet]. So I have it as a internet browser OS only dual booting with XP in office. My Uni does not even support it yet.

    Bibus in Vista: I have not tried it but it should work. What does the bibus site say about its compatibility with Vista?

    If you want to use FOSS, and you have no restrictions like me, then try Ubuntu with OOo and Bibus; I have this installed on my home machine.

    HTH,

    Yes, well new computer so it ships with Vista, my hands are tied. Might run Ubuntu, but for now I just want to run OpenOffice in Vista, preferably with Bibus.

    However, sourceforge lists Bibus as supported by all OS's up to and inclusive XP. No Vista apparently, though it might still work, which is why I asked in this forum. It is not listed as Vista-compatible on this site either: http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/Windows_Vista_RTM_Software_Compatibility_List#Academic_2
