I don't need the license key :D Im asking on a long shot...and the only reason is because my school has vista ultimate 32bit edition, but its supplied as OEM, so i cant go through the MS aftermarket upgrade program and just get the 64bit disc. I wish my school would just give the 64bit edition!

Will the product code i get for the 32bit edition (volume license from school) work for a 64bit disc?

From experience...the 32bit keys from the academic program do not work with a 64bit version of Vista. If your university gives you a full retail copy then yes it should work, but if the disc is marked academic then you have an academic copy that is only able to be 32bit.

this is odd, i got conflicting information from someone at another forum (and some people on here):

The same thing happened to me, but it's far from impossible to get Vista x64.

    1. School licenses are not retail, so if you get a 32-bit install DVD Microsoft will NOT send you a 64-bit install DVD.
    2. However, the CD-Key you got with your 32-bit Vista will definitely work for the 64-bit version.
    3. All this means is that you have to somehow get a 64-bit install disc and install it using the CD-Key you already have. That's it. All you need is a disc.

So get the disk. Borrow it from someone. Download from MSDN. There are a lot of options.

If your computer is a Dell, you can PM Chris M in the Dell forum your service tag # and he'll send you a 64-bit DVD free of charge. Search this forum, there are several posts about this (but all say the same, which is what I just wrote... ;) ).

I have a school-issued 32-bit license for Vista too. I have read conflicting reports as to whether that 32-bit key will work in 64-bit Vista, but kazaam55555 is the second person who definitely says that it works. So I trust this and will try. I'll let you know how it goes.

I got x86 oem, then i download a x64 retail disc from torrent and use my oem license key by backup.

Or to be sure you can follow this guide.

I thought I answered this thread.

I just installed x64 Business with an academic 32-bit key, using my OEM Ultimate x64 media less than an hour ago. Yes, this is legal.
