Error Code 80070490

Everytime I try to install the update "Security Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB967723)" I get the error code 80070490.

Now I've done some searching and the info I found was that [underline]something[/underline] was corrupted and I need a fresh install.

No way in hell is that happening. I'm not going to completely uninstall everything and then reinstall all the update when I'll receive my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate on November 5th (or earlier ).

Is there anything else I can do or am I left with the option of just waiting?

edit: To add to this it seems Far Cry 2 is running at a slower frame rate all of a sudden. What could be causing this, in light of the recent update issue I have?

edit 2: Never mind the frame rate issue. I didn't realize Stealth Mode was enabled.

I cannot understand why this would work, but some people are having success by configured their primary and secondary DNS servers to point to one of the public DNS servers.. Try changing them to the following and re-updating.

I would be amazed if that worked, but a few people said it did.

 

Good call Brandon....I would not be surprised if it works. I've fixed several similar errors using OpenDNS


If it does not work, go to the windowsupdates.log in the c:\windows directory, clear it, run windows update again, then post the contents of the log

Look in C:\Windows\servicing\Packages or %windir%\servicing\packages.

Rename the Package_for_KB967723~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.0.1.7.cat and .mum files to.old or anything really. To be safe, I'd rename anything with KB967723 in it.

Now install this manually before re-running windows update to do the patching.

I know this is a vista link, but try it anyway.

I just followed those instructions. First, no update option what-so-ever. Second, my M17x now has no Alienware settings or options, won't connect to the internet and has a multitude of other problems.

Time to bust out the Alienrespawn disc.
