    Im going off to college soon and before i backup my harddrive i wanted to get everything i needed on there. I have office, norton, divx codec, winamp, VLC media player, CCleaner. do you know of anything other things i should probably have on there? DirectX 9, just thought of that.

    - spybot search n destroy.
    - NHC
    - k-lite mega codec pack (so you can play EVERY video man-compressed)
    - nero 6.6 for burning cds/dvds
    - a dvd player (I use powerdvd)
    - a folder protector just in case you have friends sniffing around your laptop.
    - a HD image creator (a fresh install of your HD image every semester is a great way to start out instead of having to format)
    - couple of offline games incase your bored or have no internet connection.

    yeah im making a ghost back up disc of my hd. can i use VLC player to play dvds? and what is NHC ? thanks for ur help

    NHC is notebook hardware control. good utility for all sorts of things on a notebook. just google it to find it. :)
