My computer does not detect the ethernet connection if plugged in after resuming a session from 'sleep'. However it does detect it if I 'restart' instead of sleep. What could possibly be causing this? I am running Vista Home Premium on an LG S1.

One possibility is that the device has been turned off to save battery power

Do you have SP1 installed?

Check with your manufacturer to see if there's a known issue with this (and, while you're on the website, d/l and install any/all available updates, particularly for the chipset drivers). On some Intel chipsets there are a variety of errata that can cause minor havoc when a system transitions power levels. I don't have a ready example to hand, but I do recall reading a while back about one chipset in which the mouse could not be used to wake the system up (i.e., bring it from a lower power state to full power) because an error in the relevant chipset meant that the power-up signal could not be asserted by the device until the device itself had had another of its signals de-asserted (that's Intel-speak, I didn't make it up) by the chipset; but, because of the error in the chipset, the de-assertion signal did not get sent until after the chipset was roused from a lower power state up to the full power state - sort of a chicken-and-egg problem.
If that's the case with your particular chipset (which you can research on the Intel website if you're really, really, really bored, or really, really, really motivated - take your pick, and you've resorted your sock drawers for the nth time already), then there may be a workaround available either from Intel or, more likely, from your manufacturer. -
SP1 is installed.
