Hi all,
Just figured out that whenever i plug a USB 2.0 flash drive to my USB 2.0 ports of my G53JW i get numerous event log ERRORS saying:
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\DR5.
The error is kinda important i don't know to how to get rid of it. The flash drives are working fine on this machine (i can copy files fine) and does NOT generate errors on another machine and on XP SP2.
The screenshot:

BTW, i'm using Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 and Windows 7 SP1.
Please help!![]()

bump! Every G53 owner must check it, plugging usb drive generates event log event id:11 which indicated disk (usb) controller error. See screenshot above
If i connect my pen drive (usb 2.0 one) to USB 3.0 port, no event log errors are generated, it looks fine. Why is that with USB 2.0 ports?

Every PC owner must check it, plugging usb drive generates event log event id:11 which indicated disk (usb) controller error. See screenshot above If i connect my pen drive (usb 2.0-capable pen drive) to USB 3.0 port, no event log errors are generated, it looks fine. Why is that with USB 2.0 ports?

Please help! -
No, it's not. It's a spurious error message that can safely be ignored.

Can you elaborate this a bit more?
I really want to beleive this, but i never got this controller error on my usb 3.0 port or on my other xp sp2 box.
It's not kind of thing that everyone has the same, but notable amount of people seem to have it according to Google search.
BTW, the usb 2.0 host controller is Intel and driver provider is Microsoft which seems normal.
What can i do to fix that event log error?
Thanks! -
Nothing. There is nothing that needs to be fixed.

I meant getting rid of error event logs (event id:11 whenever you plug a usb pen drive) by "fix". Do you have them? -
Try to reinstall latest Intel INF driver. That's the only driver you need for USB 2.0 ports.

Hi bigspin, as you're using G53JW like me, haven't you noticed the errors in event log that occurs when you plug a USB 2.0 drive whereas USB 3.0 ports are fine?
By the way, if you don't have problems, can you please tell what Intel chipset (inf) driver you have. For example mine seems 9.1.1.1020 for 2.0 controller:
http://i53.tinypic.com/21eduh.png
As you see the files' are Microsoft-provided as well as previous versions of Windows, and inf driver is just a director to tell how to configure them but if yours are newer and you have no problems, i would like to know the version of you.
On Asus website, version 9.1.1.1025 (2010.01.25 update) seems available, apparently much newer versions are available on Intel's site. I found 9.2.0.1030 and as you know G53JW has Intel HM55 chipset, so which one is the compatible and the latest?
Please help me to sort it out,
Thanks! -
There are some issues with Win7 SP1 & USB system files .Microsoft released bunch of updates, couple of weeks ago to fix it. Better check your windows is up to date.
I'm using the latest driver. download it from here -

Thanks for the info! What's the version number of yours? Have you tried the one from official Intel's website? And i updated to SP1 via Windows Update? Was my notebook affected? And you have no problems in event log (repeating my previous question just to confirm)?
-
No problems for me . I used the latest WHQL from the site i gave you above. I did the update via windows update and couple of weeks later i got the patches for USB system files.

Hmm, But the latest one on the site you've given (station-drivers) does NOT match with the official Intel's website. There is NO driver package on Intel's website named 9.2.3.10116, but 9.2.0.1030 as latest. Isn't yours official? And i'm still not sure whether the problem is because of Intel's buggy inf driver or Windows 7 SP1.
Note: My Windows 7 is up to date as of today. (including SP1, hotfixes applied). -

By the Way, aren't USB Controller drivers provided and installed by Windows/Microsoft???
See this screenshot (right part of the image):
usbehci.sys, usbhub.sys, usbport.sys...are provided and written by Microsoft. Intel's INF driver package has no files to install as Intel states!
So, as i have the latest Windows 7 SP1 with latest updates, does it indicate a bug or hardware/controller error of my Intel HM55 chipset inside my G53JW? I'm really concerned. Please relieve me. -

No new idea or solution from any G53JW owner about the problem?
Note for moderators: That "may" not be Windows's problem. You could keep it in Asus forum section. -
when you run an Intel .INF update, you want to use the -overall command line switch to make sure that everything new/old gets updated.
This is documented in the readme that accompanies the installer (you DO read the readme files, yes?!)
Otherwise just 'deltas' get installed. -

I contacted Asus support a week ago, haven't got a reply yet, the Asus support is simply "h-o-r-r-i-b-b-l-e."
Event id:11 is logged too often when i plug a USB drive...
