    What is the name of the item you are trying to disable?

    Have you run a virus/spyware scan?

    go to start->run-> msconfig
    click on the boot.ini tab
    click "Check all Boot Paths". It should then say that the Windows Recovery Console is not a valid OS and if you would like to remove it, press yes.

    control panel/system/advanced tab/startup + recovery, take the "time to display list of operating systems" down to 0, that way it doesnt wait but you can boot up and press the down arrow at the right time to get into recovery mode.

    recovery mode is a good thing to have if/when your machine decides to blue screen and you have to run a chkdsk c: /r in recovery mode to fix it.. else you have to dig your windows install cd out to run it from there.
